Seven Simple Steps to Super Time Management
By Gaynor Rosier of Kenna Eco Diving
Seven Simple Steps to Super Time Management To achieve super time management just follow these seven simple steps. 1. Decide on what is important for you to achieve each day, and in what order. Make sure your values are not in conflict with your goals. Energy spent on worrying is a waste of your resources and undermines your confidence in your own abilities. 2. Consider what rewards you would reap by completing a certain task. Then, compare those rewards with the consequences of putting the task off. Every action has consequences. Going through this process makes it easier to see which tasks have a higher value towards reaching your goals for this week and which may be less important to complete today and could be listed for tomorrow. 3. Think about the difference between urgency and importance when dealing with the many competing demands on your time. An unexpected visitor or phone call may be urgent to deal with, but the outcome may not be so important in the long run. In this case the urgency is caused by someone else, and you need to decide whether it will benefit your goals or act as a distraction to you. The most important steps for achieving your long-term goals are self-directed and have the greatest value for you. 4. Remember you are a winner and preparation goes a long way in helping you achieve all your goals. Each evening check your priorities for the following day. Make a list. Review your list at the beginning of each day. Tick off each item as it is accomplished, and carry over those priorities not completed into the following day’s agenda. 5. Tell yourself daily that you are grateful for feeling so wealthy, healthy, slim, or whatever it is you are working towards, as this attitude will draw you more quickly towards you that which you desire and expect. 6. Re-energise and renew yourself frequently in order to avoid burnout and you will become much more motivated and productive. Don't keep your nose to the grindstone for years and wait for retirement before you take a holiday. Balance and consistency are the keys to a full life. 7. Enjoy the process of achieving your desires, not just the end result. Don't fight the passing of time. Life and time go together. Do enjoy each phase of life. Do remember to make the most of each day, and draw maximum joy as well as a sense of achievement from each moment. Time has a dual structure. On one hand, we live our daily routines meeting present contingencies as they arise. On the other hand, our most ambitious goals and desires need time so that they can be assembled and cemented. A long-term goal connects pieces of time into one block. These blocks can be imagined and projected into the future as we do when we set goals for ourselves. Or, these blocks of time can be created in retrospect as we do when we look back at what we've accomplished. It is not in the image of our big dreams that we run the risk of losing our focus and motivation. It is the drudgery and routine of our daily lives that present the greatest danger to our hopes for achievement. Good time management means that you maximize the daily return you get on the energy and mental effort you expend.
